UD JV 3 Wiss 2

Gutsy Win for UD over Wissahickon

Reilly Brink came in clutch in the 8th inning after a pitching duel between two great pitchers led the game into overtime. The bats were fairly silent on both sides with small scoring, as Wissahickon got a lead of 2-0 after some good baserunning and strong hits in the 4th and the 5th. Before that, the game was dominated by defense and strong pitching. The Wissahickon pitcher flashed 6 scoreless innings with 7 strikeouts. Michael Zicchinolfi, on the mound for UD, pitched well with 4 strikeouts. In the bottom of the 7th, Wissahickon looked like they would pull away with this gutsy win. However, when it really mattered, UD got a couple good hits from Ryan Besachio and Reilly Brink to get 2 runs. The score was tied after 7, so it went to overtime. Chris Tochet came in to relieve Zicchinolfi, who had pitched 7 innings, and got the job done – allowing no runs. In the bottom of the 8th, some well needed magic came off Reilly Brink’s bat, as he scored the game winning run on an RBI single. This was a tremendously gutsy win, especially because Wissahickon was playing an away game with a 2-4 record on the road. After the game, Coach Garner said about his team’s performance, “That’s not what I like to see [scoreless 7 innings], but we got it done.” The 8-2-4 UD Cardinals can now look ahead to today’s game against Roman Catholic High School at 3:30 in Upper Dublin.
