Upper Dublin’s Connor McFadden gave up one hit in seven innings. He also had two hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored. “He did a great job,” Upper Dublin coach Ed Wall said. “He was able to spot his fastball nicely. There were a lot of swings and misses on his curveball. He threw it for a strike. He did all that in some unfavorable weather conditions.”

Cole Swiger scored three runs and slammed two hits for the Flying Cardinals. “It was good to see those two guys, Connor and Cole, get going,” Wall said. “They’ve had some tough luck lately. Seeing them hit the ball hard was fun to watch.” JT Breslin had two hits and an RBI for the Cardinals.

Upper Dublin (13-3, 12-1 SOL) resumes its game against Cheltenham Wednesday. The Cardinals are No. 3 in the AAAA power rankings.   “The power rankings are whatever they are. We are just trying to win games,” Wall said. “Hopefully we get a first round bye out of it.” Springfield (5-10, 4-9 SOL) plays its season finale against Cheltenham Thursday.


 16 5 17 Springfield 07The Upper Dublin / Cardinals escape Springfield Township behind Conor McFadden‘s 4 strikeouts, 7-0.  A great effort by Conor McFadden lifted the Upper Dublin / Cardinals to a 7-0 win in seven innings over Springfield Township on Tuesday. Springfield Township had no answer for McFadden, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Springfield Township managed just one hit off of the the Upper Dublin / Cardinals’ pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out four during his seven innings of work.

The Upper Dublin / Cardinals beat Springfield Township thanks to nine hits, including four extra base hits. The Upper Dublin / Cardinals scored two runs in the sixth on the Upper Dublin / Cardinals scored in the sixth on an RBI single by Justin Horn and an RBI single by Tommy Reilly.  McFadden put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Upper Dublin / Cardinals. He doubled in the fifth and seventh innings.  The Upper Dublin / Cardinals were sparked by Cole Swiger and McFadden, who teamed up for four hits and two RBIs.

16 5 17 Springfield 56Noel Franzyk ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He lasted just five innings, walked one, struck out seven, and allowed four runs. The Upper Dublin / Cardinals went up for good in the fourth, scoring two runs on two errors. The Upper Dublin / Cardinals got two-run rallies in the fifth inning and the sixth. In the fifth, the Upper Dublin / Cardinals scored on an RBI double by McFadden, bringing home Swiger.
