Cheltenham beats Upper Dublin 12-11 thanks to big comeback
The Upper Dublin Cardinals held a comfortable seven-run lead in the third inning, but a big comeback by Cheltenham ended the Cardinal’s hopes in a 12-11 loss Monday at Cheltenham High School. Tudkarau got the win for Cheltenham despite allowing 11 runs over seven innings. He struck out four, walked five and surrendered 12 hits.
Cheltenham was sparked by Grady and Bugy, who teamed up for six hits and seven RBIs. Jonathan Lew ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He allowed six runs in 2 1/3 innings, walked one and struck out one. The top of the first saw Upper Dublin take an early lead, 3-0. Alex Goldenberg singled to ignite the Cardinals offense, before Jared Lamberg singled, plating Alex Goldenberg. More runs came home for the Cardinals when Matz scored on an RBI single by Chris Greve and Lamberg scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Melick.
Cheltenham scored one run in each of the first, sixth and seventh. In the first, Cheltenham scored on an error, bringing home Grady. The game’s last lead went to Cheltenham thanks to a seventh inning rally that saw one run cross the plate on two singles.
