CHELTENHAM 8, UPPER DUBLIN 7
In a contest that featured five lead changes, it was the Panthers scoring three runs over the final two innings to eke out the come-from-behind win over the conference champions. Josh Ryan’s RBI double in the seventh plated a run that turned out to be the game winner.
The Cards took a 1-0 lead in the first when Cole Swiger, who doubled, scored on Connor McFadden’s single. The Panthers knotted the score in the second, but the Cards exploded for five runs in the bottom of the inning to go on top 6-1. Highlights of the frame included a two-run single by Swiger, RBI singles by Justin Horn and McFadden and a sacrifice fly by JT Breslin.
That lead turned out to be anything but secure as the Panthers scored four runs in the third, but they still trailed 7-5 heading into the sixth when they plated a pair to knot the score, setting the stage for Ryan’s game winner in the seventh.
Ryan finished the game 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored out of the leadoff spot. Joel White was 2-for-4, Jawan West was 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI while Jordan Rorer was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored. Wes Giles, Alex Haasz and Sam McTier each singled and drove in a run.
Swiger was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and three runs to lead the Cardinals. Horn (2-for-3, run, RBI), McFadden (2-for-4, 2 RBIs), Thomas Juelke (2-for-4, two doubles) and Andrew McDermott (2-for-4, run) also had multiple hits for the Cards.
Lukas Nakkula earned the win in relief, allowing one hit while walking one in two scoreless innings to close out the game.
