Suburban One Report

So far this season, the Panthers are enjoying their role as the new kids on the block in the American Conference, adding two-time defending conference champion Upper Dublin to their list of early-season conquests.
Once again Matt Bukavich was in complete command on the mound, scattering six hits and taking a shutout into the seventh inning when the Cards plated a two-out run. He fanned nine and walked just two.
“He just went up there and continued rolling,” coach Jon Pallone said. “We had a lot of good things happen.
“We did a lot of small things correct, we put a lot of pressure on them and things went well for us. We had timely hitting.”
The Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the third inning and added three more runs in the fourth to go on top 4-0. That was more than enough for Bukavich, but for good measure, they added five runs in the sixth to seal the Cardinals’ fate.
With two outs in the seventh and the bases loaded, Justin Horn’s single plated the Cardinals only run. The final out of the game also was recorded on the play.
“The kid from second rounded third too far, and our cutoff guy threw behind him at third base and got him for the third out,” the Panthers’ coach said. “Bukavich would have had to come out because of the pitch rule.”
Jake Reed was 2-for-4 out of the leadoff spot with two RBIs and two runs scored. Bukavich was 2-for-4 with one RBI while Viktor Morelock was 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. Dennis Pierce was 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Jack Wooden was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Chris Manns was 1-for-1 with an RBI and run scored.
For the Cardinals, Horn was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jack Jamison had a double for the game’s only extra base hit.
“Obviously, this is a quality win,” Pallone said.
Quakertown (5-1, 3-0 SOL) will be on the road at Cheltenham on Tuesday, and Upper Dublin (2-3, 1-2) will host Plymouth Whitemarsh on Tuesday.
